Pilot CE Project

Toronto 2003 - Photo Story

Division 42 has developed 10 Home Study CE courses based on our Niche Guides and more will be available in the near future. While these courses will be available to our members, Division 42 has also been interested in being able to distribute these courses to a broader audience.

Toward this end, Division 42 has entered into an agreement with the Florida Psychological Association to offer our Home Study CE courses in Florida. Our partnership should be a “win-win” situation, as both organizations will benefit. FPA will advertise, promote, and distribute the home study courses in Florida along with the courses they already offer. Division 42 will have a greater market for the home study courses we have developed. There is a significant price differential between member rates and non-member rates. This differential should also be viewed as a distinct member benefit that would be available to new members once they join. In turn, we hope this will serve as an incentive to psychologists to become members.

Our agreement with FPA will serve as a pilot project for the Division working with state associations. FPA was selected as the initial association for several reasons –

  1. Florida requires 40 CE credits every 2 years for license renewal,
  2. Florida allows home study credits to count in the same fashion as attending a workshop,
  3. Florida’s renewal date for psychology licensure is May, 2004 and that allows a reasonable period of time to assess how the arrangement is working,
  4. FPA already offers CE home study courses and adding our courses would be relatively easy,
  5. FPA already has the staff and procedures in place to carry out its share of the agreement.

The pilot project with FPA will serve as a model for future agreements with other larger state associations. We are quite confident that it will go well and that we will seek to establish similar relations with other larger state associations.

Our next pilot project will be with a smaller state association. In this situation, we are likely to have a somewhat different agreement where Division 42 will maintain the responsibility for administering the home study course while the state association will be responsible for advertising and promoting the home study courses to their members and within their state. We are optimistic about this pilot project as well. We hope that by next year we will be able to offer to partner with all State Psychological Associations in offering CE home study courses.

I should add my thanks to our President, Jean Carter, as well as Jeff Barnett and Hilda Besner for their support and assistance in getting this pilot project off the ground. And, of course, we couldn’t have done it without the back up of Jeannie Beeaff, our tireless administrative staffer.
