I am greatly honored to be nominated for Division 42’s Member-At-Large. I am an independent practitioner and consider the Division to be a vital and integral part of my professional practice and identity. I have been Chair of Division 42’s Finance Committee, currently chair of the Resource Development Task Force and am Chair-elect of the Membership Committee. I have a great deal of experience advocating for practitioners on both the state and national level. As Chair of the Board of Professional Affairs, I was able to directly address issues relevant to practitioners and directly affect policy within APA that protects professional psychologists. In reviewing, revising and writing guidelines, I helped ensure that practitioner liability would be minimized while consumer protection would be enhanced. I also helped make sure that professional psychology’s voice was heard in areas such as continuing education, accreditation and specialty training. And as President of my state association, I have had direct involvement in advocacy for practitioner interests and the wellbeing of our profession.

At the recent Division 42 Board retreat, we decided that the three top critical issues confronting independent practitioners are 1) Increase revenues and reimbursement for services; 2) Position psychology as a primary health profession and 3) Prescriptive Authority. Division 42 must address these issues through advocacy, education and public awareness.

In addition, another critical issue currently confronting independent practitioners involves the controversy between empirically based-treatment versus evidence-based treatment. Division 42 is in a position to impact these critical issues in a profound manner. I have been appointed to a 42 Task Force that would explore the issue of evidence-based treatment and make recommendations to APA as well as the psychology community in general.

If elected as Member-at-Large, I promise to work tirelessly for independent practitioners and to devote myself to continuing the great work of our Division.
