A Membership Update and Welcome to Student/Young Professionals
It is with great pleasure that I write this article about membership activities for the past year. For the past three years I have been the Membership Chair and the two major focuses were member retention and promoting new membership in 42. I am pleased that in l999 we added a new membership category Student/Young Professional. Being a member of 42 offers many opportunities to grow and expand your professional knowledge and horizons as a private practitioner. The following is a list of some new student/young professional who have joined our 42 family: |

| Welcome to all of you and I hope you become active in our Division and take advantage of all our membership benefits.
During the past year we conducted three major campaigns to attract new members to Division 42. We wrote to people in the following states: California, New York, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. As a result of this writing invitations we acquired 520 new members. I want to thank the 42 members who signed the letters of invitation for their states. Presently we have 5120 paid members, 818 dues exempt members and new student/young professional members joining. Members please encourage your colleagues and your students to join our Division so they may benefit from our many member benefits: the brochure project, the PICK 42 project, marketing initiatives, and receiving The Independent Practitioner, which includes information about trends in private practice as well as scholarly materials in many content areas. As of January, 2000 I will be turning the membership wand to Lou Perrot, Ph.D., who will continue these membership initiatives and add his own slant. I will be chairing a committee for Student/Young Professional Development in Division 42. In August, l999 we held our first conversation hour at the APA convention. The plan is to have a special track within the APA convention to develop and nurture our newest membership group. If you have any ideas or comments, please forward them to me at PPITTA4883@aol.com. Thank you for the opportunity to have been your Membership Chair. |
