Reminders and Motivators by Email
Pauline Wallin
For certain tasks it’s not enough to write them down in your appointment book or PDA. You may need an extra nudge to remind and/or inspire you. Nudge yourself by email.
There are several free web services that let you send messages to yourself, to be delivered at a specific time in the future. You simply type in your message, and tell the system when you want it delivered. At the designated time you’ll receive the message in your email.
And such messages can be more than simply reminders. They can also serve as self-motivators for your therapy clients.
Have clients use them to:
- Send themselves a reminder a day before their next appointment (This is especially handy when the next appointment is several weeks away.)
- Urge themselves to do tasks they've been procrastinating.
- Keep them focused on their goals and priorities.
- Send themselves a motivational message when they think they'll need it most; e.g., before a big test, job interview, first date, etc.
Here are a few websites for setting up reminders. All offer free service, but require registration. Some offer messaging to your cell phone as well. Some offer additional premium service for a fee.
