Learn to Collaborate with Medical Professionals

Robert L. Wernick

Are you planning to attend the APA Convention this summer? Are you interested in developing collaborative relationships with Medical Professionals? If so, mark your schedule for some “practice friendly” presentations offered by Division 42 at the convention.

The “Healthcare for the Whole Person” task force, chaired by Dr. Esther Lerman Freeman of Oregon Health and Science University, is offering a program designed for the practicing clinician. While those psychologists already working in areas of health psychology can certainly benefit from these programs, they are really designed for those who have less experience in the area but would like to expand their practice “comfort zone”.

This program has been developing over the past year. The presenters are Independent Practitioners with years of experience working in different aspects of Health Psychology. They have been able to establish collaborative working relationships with other health professionals and integrated this into their practices. They will be at APA to share their knowledge with you. If their experiences have been like most “pioneers”, they have come by some of their expertise through trial & error, frustration, and hard work. They hope they can help you avoid some of the “pitfalls” as you learn how to collaborate.

The presentations listed below represent the Task Force program. All sessions are held in the Convention Center unless otherwise noted. In an attempt to make these presentations more transferable to your practice, Dr. Freeman will be editing a Workbook based on the presentations. Attendees will receive this workbook as a “member benefit”. It is the hope of the Task Force that this workbook will allow those new to working collaboratively with medical professionals to have an easier transition in developing this aspect of your practice.
