Marty Williams. Those are the first words that grace my first editorial column. It is to him I owe the debt of this chance as he has tutored me the past 3 years, grooming me like Seattle Slew after the Belmont, to become the newest editor of the Independent Practitioner. We owe him a round of applause, and certainly hope he shall remain involved with our Division. And thanks to all prior editors before Marty as well (Mike Brickey, Bill Myers, Kris Erikson, Karen Zager from here my memory is lost, I’m sure others can fill in the rest who deserve thanks). Please allow me to introduce a few others as well as we get started on the next 3 years. By now most readers will be familiar with Frank Froman, our Quincy, IL hypergraphic, who I’m so pleased to announce as the Associate Editor. The choice of Frank has netted me not just one but two, as Frank brings along his able sidekick and folk-wisdom aficionado, Marve Plotnik. Readers of the Div 42 e-mail list know Marve well. Those who have met Frank in person note they have never seen him and Marve in the same room together, but Frank has specifically denied all Clarke Kent/Superman comparisons. Welcome Frank, and thanks on behalf of the Division. Stanley Graham is one the Division’s founders, and has agreed to serve as a special Action Editor for political/practice news. His insider’s view and knowledge of APA will give us a consistent insight into the cutting edge of issues. Jeannie Beaff serves as our Division Administrator for longer than I have been around. She’s always kind and has never yelled at me (it helps she lives in Arizona and can’t get to where I live). She and Rick Weiss put together the IP behind the scenes and are due our gratitude. I’m Ed Lundeen. I prefer to allow my introduction be via the content of what you will find in this and the next 3 years of IP’s, as well as the content of Editorial columns that will follow this one. I believe that Editorials should be just that strong opinions that inspire thought and perhaps a bit of dissent. We will welcome the same from our readers. Frank and I dream of the IP continuing to move beyond it’s already fine reputation. We are striving to publish PRACTICAL and useful articles that will help you immediately. Look for example for our pull-out pages, that allow you to copy on your own letter-head useful information sheets for use with your patients and referral sources. And in that vein of thought, we simply ask you to tell us what you want to know. We welcome all ideas for what you want to see published. Our e-mails are Romaedl@juno.com and frankf@adams.net. They are always on. Thanks to those leaders of the Division now moved to other roles who got me started in this in the first place so many years ago. I hope I can live up to their legacies. Frank and I look forward to trying. |
