Media Psychology and Telehealth
Alan D Entin, Ph.D., ABPP The Division of Media Psychology embraces the Internet as an integral part of our mission, the Internet being the most technologically advanced form of media currently available. The Internet offers the most significant opportunities for promoting psychology through the media and furthering psychology as a profession. Telehealth, and more specifically, behavioral healthcare, is the fastest growing specialty service for telehealth practice and has been identified as the most significant contribution to healthcare delivery systems of the future. It includes the use of all electronic tools for healthcare delivery and patient care. The Division of Media Psychology is at the forefront of the expansion in the uses of the Internet in practice, with an active committee chaired by Leigh Jerome, PhD, and co-chair Marlene Maheu, PhD. At the summer Convention, there will be several programs dealing with this topic, including a couple on the establishment and maintenance of an Internet practice. Our members are involved in an exciting variety of innovative applications of psychology using the internet, many write advice columns, are frequently quoted in articles that appear on websites and Internet columns, have websites on different aspects of psychology, such as relationships, violence and addiction. They are interested in a wide variety of treatment, research and education issues and are working to advocate the responsible and ethical adoption of telehealth technologies. If you want to be at the cutting edge of Internet technologies, the Division of Media Psychology is the place to be. |
