Tips for making the most of your ad space:
- Describe your product or service in 2 sentences.
- Highlight the benefits that the buyer will get from your product or service. Benefits are those which pass the “so what?” test. e.g., “This book is full of research on pets.” . . . So what? What’s in it for me, and why is that important?
- Give people a reason to click to buy now. e.g., introductory price, extra bonus when you order before a certain date, urgency or timeliness.
- Make it easy for people to buy what you’re selling: Provide the link to the exact page where your book is located on Amazon. Have a link to the specific page on your website where they can read more about your product, book, service or course.
- Include your contact information, in case people have questions.
- In your freebie (that is posted on the Div 42 website) always include a link to your commercial product or service, as well as contact info in case someone has questions.
Example: Suppose you’ve written a new book – Pet-Assisted Therapy: How to use animals in helping your clients improve their self-confidence
Wrong way to present this book:
This book includes:
- Theories of pet-assisted therapy – psychoanalytic, behavioral, cognitive, play therapy
- Research on pet-assisted therapy
- Chapters on pet-assisted therapy in various settings – office, school, nursing home
- 5 kinds of pets – when to use which
- Endorsed by the American Humane Society, American Kennel Club and ASPCA
This book is available at Amazon and your local bookstore and library.
Why the above is the “wrong way”: It lists only features, no benefits. From reading it you don’t get a good sense of how you can use the content. It also lacks a “call to action” – no direction or reason for the reader to buy now.
Better way to present this book:
Pet-assisted Therapy will give you tools to make you an even better therapist than you already are. Do you have clients who are shy, who lack confidence, or who are lonely, and who haven’t improved in traditional therapy as much as they would like?
You can help them break through their resistance and emotional barriers by incorporating pets into your work with them.
- Guide them through identifying their strengths as they relate to their animals.
- Show them how to use their strengths to enhance their confidence around people.
Pet-assisted Therapy goes beyond the usual animals-are-good-for-the-soul. The methods are based on solid research. If you ever have to respond to requests for evidence-based therapy, this book describes dozens of well-designed studies that you will be able to cite.
If you’re a therapist who loves people AND animals, this is the perfect compendium to developing the kind of practice that you truly enjoy.

Why the above is the “better way”: It appeals to the reader’s emotions. It gives a clear example of what you can expect. It gives assurance that this is a scientific and professional manual that will enhance your therapeutic skills. It has a call to action and an incentive to buy.
