A Welcome Message from the Division 42 President

Welcome to Div42 Online. At this site we intend to serve members of Psychologists in Independent Practice, a Division of the American Psychological Association, and the public by offering information on important psychological issues.

The excitement about this site is seeing the breadth of areas of psychology and life where our membership and leadership have impact. Psychologists in Independent Practice is a hard working division of the APA. The leadership volunteers its time in behalf of issues important to the professional functioning of psychologists and for the betterment of our patients. The amount of effort and time that we all contribute to our specific "causes" is outstanding and commendable. It is my hope that a visit through this site will interest more membership in our division and more leadership in our work. Division 42 membership is especially important for students and new practitioners. Here you can learn the many issues, thoughts and developments of the independent practice of psychology.

Browsing various sections you will see our focus for the last 5 years has been public education and marketing. Review the brochures that assist practitioners in marketing their niche areas to the public and to other professionals. PICK 42 Niche guides will quickly update your knowledge about a specific topic. Tote bags, mouse pads and mugs, with pictures depicting a curving road with the saying, "When the road of life takes a tough turn, a psychologist can help", add to keeping psychology in the publics' eye.

Public Service Announcements (PSA's) and media contact messages have provided information and tips on a variety of life issues. Topics have included health, grandparenting, relationships, holidays, disasters, violence. Information is provided to media outlets nationally, and materials are available for our members to use in their own practice in their own communities.

Please enjoy your visit to our site. Feel free to contact any of the Committee or Task Force chairs to volunteer your time, join a committee, or write and article for the IP.
